How to Make: Papaya Soap with Glutathione **Cold Prossesed

Papaya is actually a tropical fruit it is normally orange in color yet the green flesh in the unripe fruit is made up of a lot more of this papain enzyme.

Papaya has been known to be a main component in skin whitening products since it is made up of papain, an all-natural enzyme that stimulates skin restoration and cell turn over. It helps in exfoliating your skin to uncover new cells and bring new skin cells to the surface to reveal a healthy complexion, and contains regenerative properties that soften the skin. To increase the advantages of papaya, you should use papaya soap to scrub and exfoliate along with papaya lotion to help moisturize your skin.

Breaking down the dead skin cells is important to skin whitening. As papaya enables you to accelerate the skin cell renewal process, it will help to lighten your skin appearance. However, papaya does not have all melanin inhibiting properties thus will not cause severe skin lightening. It is perfect for diminishing darkish spots and skin tone brightening in general.

There is a good chance that eating papaya may also help in whitening your skin and improving all round skin clarity. Papaya is abundant in vitamins A and E in addition to vitamin C and other anti-oxidants that assist in supplying skin the humidity and protection it requires. The nutrients included in the papaya fruit helps with the skin’s recovery too.

To benefit from the lightening effects of papaya, feel free to use papaya soap twice daily and may see an effect after a couple of weeks of steady usage. Using the flesh of the fruit like a face mask 2-3 times per week may also eliminate dead skin and lighten the complexion.

Enhance a papaya program with vitamins and minerals and solutions to protect the skin, such as moisturizers and sunscreen. Regular care and maintenance along with a good cleanliness are components of naturally beautiful skin.

Papaya is not only ideal for fading dark spots and evening complexion. There are a number of other wonderful properties include dealing with pimples, burns, stings, rashes and anti-aging.We recommend Papaya for your skincare regime. When applied to the face, it helps get rid of dead skin and gives your face that fresh glow!

Fact: Safonified Coconut Oil in soap making can dry the skin. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer when applied topically to the skin. But once it is saponified in the soap, it can dry our skin and make it feel tight due to its high cleansing abilities. You can prevent the drying effects of Saponified Coconut Oil by increasing the Lye Discount or Superfat of the Soap. You could do 12.5-20%  of  Lye Discount (Superfat) in coconut oil. Example: You choose 14% Superfat, meaning: 14% of Coconut oil in your soap are Unsaponified. 14% of Coconut oil will give your soap a moisturizing benefits to skin.

For accurate amount of Lye and to enter the Percentage of your Superfat in your soap, use a Lye calculator:
http://www.summerbeemeadow.com/content/lye-calculator-and-recipe-resizer

Coconut Oil makes a very hard and white bar of soap. Make sure you watch here the episode about Saponification and Lye Discount (Superfatting).

For this recipe,
I'll choose about 13.5% Superfat, which means 13.5% of Coconut oil remain Unsaponified.
Using the Lye Calculator in Summer Bee Meadow,
Enter"13.5"percent superfatted, Choose Coconut Oil (76 degree). enter the ounce of Oil. I prefer using grams but since the lye calculator uses "oz." Use grams to oz. converter.

Enter 35.27 oz.  the click "Click here when done".

Then you will see the amount of Sodium hydroxide needed which is:
5.49 oz. or 157 grams of Lye (sodium hydroxide).

Ingredients:
* 157 grams Sodium Hydroxide (Lye/Caustic Soda)
* 1000 grams of Unrefined Pure Virgin Coconut oil or High-Grade Refined Coconut Oil
   ---I prefer using Virgin Coconut Oil because it is rich in Lauric Acid which is a powerful anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral.
   For High-Grade Refined Coconut Oil recommended Philippine brand: "Minola Lauric Oil Coconut Oil
* 200 ml Distilled Water only to prevent contamination (for lye solution)
   recommended Philippine Brand: "Wilkins or Absolute Purified Water)
* 200 ml Fresh Ripe Papaya fruit  juice extract (use juicer) or  190 ml Papaya extract & 10 ml Aloe Vera extract
* 1.5% or 15 grams Sodium Lactate Liquid for a harder long lasting bar of soap
        --To make Sodium Lactate Liquid, mix 60 grams of Sodium Lactate powder to 40 grams of Distilled water only. and put it in a small bottle.
* 10 grams Phenoxyethanol or EDTA to preserve extracts in our soap.
* 2.5-4% or 25-40 grams Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) for skin lightening benefits and pinkish glow.
* 5-10 capsules of Glutathione (optional)
---recommended Philippine brands: "KB Kyusoku Bihaku (cheaper), Snow Caps)
* 100 grams of Distilled water only. (for dissolving niacinamide powder  and Glutathione)
* 1-2% or 10-20 grams Vitamin E oil (optional)
* Colorant and Fragrance for Measurement, make sure you watched our Lye Safety and Superfatting Blog!
--- Recommended fragrance: Sweet Orange fragrance, Lemongrass essential oil, Lavender essential oil and Cucumber melon fragrance.

Procedure:
Warning: Safety First! Wear Protective Goggles and Gloves when handling lye!

*  While stirring, Slowly pour the 157 grams of Lye to 200 ml of Distilled water. stir until the lye dissolve completely. Be sure while pouring the lye, you are stirring it to prevent creating chunks of lye. Let the lye solution cool down in a bucket with full of ice cubes. The lye solution is really hot so be careful. it will cool down for about 2 hours if not put in ice bucket.
* Prepare all ingredients. For accurate measurement, use beaker, measuring cups and digital weighing scale.
* Dissolve the Niacinamide powder and Glutathione in 100 ml of water.
*Remove the cooled down lye solution from the ice bucket.
* Slowly pour the cooled down lye solution in 1000 ml of VCO or Hi-Grade Coconut Oil. Stir it with spoon.
Using a Stick Blender, slightly mix it for 10-15 seconds until it creates a very very light trace.
*  Now pour the Fresh Ripe Papaya fruit juice extract, Niacinamide & Gluta Solution, Sodium Lactate Liquid, Phenoxyethanol or EDTA, Fragrance and colorant.
* Stir it with spoon.
* Mix it using Stick Blender until it creates a light condensed milk consistency.
* Immediately pour the soap in your mold. Tapped it to removed air bubbles. Let it harden for at least for 24 hours before unmolding.
* Now remove it in your mold and cut 1 inch width to make 10 bars of soap.
* The soaps are not yet ready to use! You must cure or air dry it first for at least 2-4 weeks. The soaps must be separated at least 1 inch apart and place the soaps in a cool dry place (avoiding sunlight and heat). Leave it there for at leat 2-4 weeks to cure it, to finish saponification process and to evaporate the excess liquid in the soap.
* The longer we cure the soap the more moisturizing and gentler it could be to our soap. That' why some of the skin whitening soaps around are a bit itchy and hurts to our skin because they don't cure it.
* After 2-4  weeks of waiting, you now have a PAPAYA SKIN WHITENING HERBAL SOAP.

  3. I was taught skin whitening powders don't survive the saponification process.

    1. No, the Sodium Hydroxide only saponifies the oil (fats) not the powder then it turns it into soap. The skin whitening powders remains.
